Family Fun: 5 Activities Your Kids Will Enjoy on Topsail Island
1. Topsail Skating Rink & Sonny's Snack and Craft Shop
Roller skate to 70s and 80s music for retro family fun at Topsail Beach Skating Rink. Featured in Our State Magazine for being one of the last retro skating rinks operating - Topsail Skating Rink has been a family owned business for over 30 years. Sonny’s Snack & Craft Shop is located underneath the skating rink and serves ice cream, snow cones, smoothies, hot and cold drinks, and assorted snacks. Crafts are sold from local artists.
2. Shipwreck Point Miniature Golf
Family fun will be had by all on this 18 hole mini golf course. Located in Surf City, Shipwreck Point Miniature Golf welcomes guests of all ages. They sell t-shirts, sunglasses and ice cream as well. The putt putt course is open from 10am to 10 pm June to August. Hours are adjusted to weekends in October 10 am to 9 pm until Spring. Guests will receive the second course for half price!
3. Soundside Park
Soundside Park is nestled in the Intracoastal Waterway right past the Surf City Bridge. Although there are many extraordinary parks on the island, Soundside is definitely high on our list! The beautiful wildlife and scenic marsh views offer an incredible place to enjoy the outdoors. Guests will find many areas to explore within the park and lots of activities to keep busy. The park offers a playground, well-maintained walking path, kayak and paddleboard launch, fishing pier, picnic tables, public restrooms, amphitheater, viewing decks and more. Soundside Park hosts a handful of family friendly events throughout the year for all ages. A few of these events include, Movie in the Park, Fall Festival, Sip Shop & Stroll, the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and lots more!
4. Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue & Rehabilitation Center
Visit Surf City’s nonprofit sea turtle conservation organization that have rescued, rehabilitated, and released close to 400 sea turtles. This rehabilitation center is staffed entirely by volunteers, and 100% of all proceeds go directly to the turtles that they treat. 5. Missiles and More Museum
Head to the south end of Topsail to learn about the unique history of our island, at the Missiles & More Museum. With over 7 exhibits on local history including these topics: The US Navy’s project to develop supersonic guided missiles, the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) that was developed in response to World War II, modern space technology, Pirates on the island, and much more! Discover shark’s teeth and fossils in the interactive kid’s area.
